Giancarlo Sergi started his career as an elite athlete before getting a Master’s degree (MSc) in Economics at the University of Lausanne (HEC), as well as a Master’s degree and a postgraduate degree in Sports Management at the Universities of Barcelona and Lyon.
After working for the International Olympic Committee, Giancarlo joined the UEFA as head of marketing services for national competitions such as the EURO football tournament. He also worked as a sponsorship manager for international brands such as Canon, JVC and T-Mobile.
Giancarlo has been running his own consultancy company at the Maison du Sport International in Lausanne for more than ten years, working on a wide range of strategic projects for the international sports sector. He mainly advises sports organizations on management, marketing, sponsoring and event planning. During this time, Giancarlo held different sponsorship consulting positions for five Olympic Games and two FIFA World Cups.
Since 2014, Giancarlo has been President of Swiss Basketball, the governing body of basketball in Switzerland, and was re-elected for a final term in 2022. From 2014 to 2019, Giancarlo worked as a member of the FIBA Management Commission and in 2019 he was elected member of the FIBA Europe Board of Directors.
From 2018 to 2021, Giancarlo worked as Secretary General of ULIS, an international lottery organization that fights against fixed sports betting. In September 2022, Giancarlo joined the BBL as General Manager.
Giancarlo is a Swiss and Italian national and is fluent in French, Italian, Spanish and English.
